What was the French/Belgium Invasion of the Ruhr?

A

This was when France and Belgium sent military to occupy the Ruhr on the 11th January 1923 and ended on the 25th August 1925.

Why did the invasion happen?

A

The invasion happened because of the lack of reparations France and Belgium were receiving. The Ruhr has German factories and other resources that would make up for the unpaid resources.

A

He sent the German workers who went on strike back to work for the French, however using passive resistance.

What does passive resistance mean?

A

Passive resistance is when you are resisting to do something in a non aggressive way. Passive resistance was used because the German army was weak.

A

Hyperinflation was when too much money was printed and prices increased rapidly to the point of where money was worthless.

A

He introduce a new currency called the Rentenmark. He also stopped the government from printing out any more money.

A

The Rentenmark allowed money to be worth something again and people were able to buy goods, paying reasonable amounts of money. There was an increase in confidence.

A

The Dawes plan was an agreement where America would give loans to Germany (25 million dollars) and they had to pay less back each year.

A

It allowed German businesses to start up again, investments could be made into industries and it helped the public.

What is bad about the Dawes Plan?

A

Germany has to depend on America’s economy, if theirs failed then so would Germany’s. It would also take longer for Germany to pay the money back. Unemployment was also still and issue.

A

The total amount of reparations was reduced to 2 billion from 6.6 billion. Germany were given an extra 59 years to pay money back.

A

This was an agreement between countries where borders were created because of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany had to accept these borders and had to agree to settle disputes without the use of violence.

A

An international group that discussed and solved problems between countries. Created in 1920. Stresemann helped Germany to join in 1926 helping that gain some type of power again.
