it is a negative attitude toward others because of their weight

refers to stereotypes and labels we assign to people who have obesity

people with high stigma will have more internalized bias and it will avoid more exercise. On top of binge eating they will not do the exercise

- inaccessible equipment and facilities
- doctor shopping
- avoidance or delay of health services
- less time spent with patients
- low trust and poor communication
what are the problems with focusing on weight
focusing on weight as controllable -> contributes to weight bias.
Internalized weight bias (self stigma) associated with greater belief in weight controllability and fatphobia and it will decrease their healthy behaviours
why you need to be critical consumer of media ideals
Victoria Secrete - BMI under 18 - unhealthy and they promote an unhealthy and unreaslistic body. You can have magazine cover of people who are overweight but they still practice physical activity or dove campaign of all beautiful women with healthy body
how it can become a cycle gaining weight with weight bias
weigh bias -> avoid PA, helath care, disorded eating -> weight management diff -> weight gain
