Q

Kinematics suggest intention = cite describe one study

A

Soriano et al 2019 - people can infer intention of drinking from a bottle based on their kinematics before the bottle is grabbed.

Q

Kinematics change according to emotional states study

A

Roether et al 2009 - participants correctly recognised anger in fast point light walkers and sadness to slow gait in those walkers

Q

2 Studies suggesting a biased view of others emotional states based on their kinematics

A

People that tend to walk faster judged angry stimuli as less angry compared to slow walkers - Edey et al 2017

People level of confidence influences how confident they judge another person based on their kinematics = people with faster kinematics may judge others as less confident since fast movement is typically associated with greater confidence = Patel et al 2012

Q

Individual differences that can influence kinematics

A

autism = problem with theory of mind (baron Cohen 1985) and different kinematics (cook 2013) = suggest a link between reading emotions/social skills and kinematics.

Q

which neural network is involved in observing actions describe with one ref, and cite another study supporting the associative learning view for this

A

same regions are activated during observing and performing actions = the mirror neuron system in VENTRAL PREMOTOR CORTEX = Locoboni et al 1999

Press et al 2012 = this is seen even when observing and performing actions involving random stimuli/non-human thus does not support evolutionary claim = social experience more important

A

Cultural factors influence emotion inferences in others = europeans are better at detecting emotions of europeans vs asian .

Q

What cortical regions are involved when people observe unexpected actions and what does it suggest

A

Medial Prefrontal cortex is activated when people observe a person performing unexpected action with no activation of motor region = suggest that MPC is involved in inferring intentions = Brass et al 2007

Q

What can we conclude overall abt the neural networks at play

A

There seem to be a social brain involved in inferring intentions/internal states in MPC and during this motor areas are less distinctly involved but does not mean they are not involved at all. - gallhager & frith 2003.
