WEEK1-CORTEX,LOBES,METHODS Flashcards
Describe what is SULCI / sulcus and what is GYRI / gyrus
SULCI = the infolded cortex regions GYRI = The tops of the folded tissue visible from the outside
Describe what are grey and white matter
GREY matter = cortex parts containing loads of cell bodies
WHITE matter = regions below the cortical surface that connect cell bodies through their axons = appear white
The Central Sulcus separates which lobes
Parietal and Frontal
Sylvian Fissure separates which lobes
It separates the temporal lobe from frontal and parietal lobes
Names for the separation between occipital and parietal lobes; and between occipital and temporal lobes
- PARIETO-OCCIPITO SULCUS (occipital separated from parietal)
- PRE-OCCIPITAL NOTCH (occipital separated from temporal)
Is vision only linked to the occipital lobe / describe
Not entirely - VISION connects occipital with temporal and parietal lobes through two processing systems
Name the 2 processing systems involved in vision and their specialisation
DORSAL PATHWAY = for objects spatial localisation
VENTRAL PATHWAY = for objects recognition
How is the front vs back of brain called in the field
How is the above part and below part called
How is the middle called and away from middle
Posterior and Anterior = front and back
Superior and Inferior = above and below
Medial = towards the middle and Lateral = away from the middle
What is saggital view of brain vs Horizontal vs Coronal
Saggital = cuts the 2 hemisphere at corpus callous Horizontal = cuts brain top vs down horizontally Coronal = cuts brain front vs back
