Structure of relationships through which a localized population meets its daily requirements

2 main notions of populism
- The elite are corrupt, no trust in them
- Power should be restored to “the people” (often just “my people”)
When does populism happen
When you can’t meet people with different perspectives in your community

- Assuming responsibility for another’s welfare
- A social process
What is Neoliberalism
Market system is the best way to allocate access to goods and resources. Individualism, privatization, reduced government involvement.
Networked individualism
People interact but don’t build community. They maintain their individual identity.
What is professionalization in sport
Sports become overly professional and organized. Not very community oriented
CD as a vision
Question of values and who’s values matter most
CD for whom?
Development may do more harm than good. Powerful can control “needy” communities.
Bhattacharyya says ultimate goal of CD is:
Autonomy or agency. Power to define themselves, live according to their own meaning systems
A better, more modern phrase for CD
