A

New neurons are automatically created in certain parts of the brain (like the hippo-campus). However they die soon after unless you use them by learning new things or exercise.

Q

Learning: Why are more intelligent people sometimes less creative?

A

Because they can hold more into their working memory and keep it there longer. They are more susceptible to einstellung, The thoughts get locked in, so they cannot see other solutions.

Q

Learning: what is the imposter syndrome

A

Feelings of incompetency, because you are ‘not naturally gifted’. However most people have this, it is deliberate practice that creates this sense of naturally gifted. You create bigger and better chunks, that you can access intuitively.

Q

Learning: The left brain is used in the focused mode and is very analytically. What is a problem that can arise? How can you solve it?

A

The left brain learns something and then wants it to be true. This can lead to overconfidence and some embarrassing errors in your thought process. However your right brain is used to check the big picture, is this thought process correct. So it is important not to get stuck in focused/left brain mode. Another help can be teamwork, where the lock-in of your left brain can be broken by critical teammates.

Q

Learning: Do you start with the hard or the easy problems?

A

Start hard, then switch to the easy problems. Because you need the diffused mode to solve the hard ones. Then switch back to the hard ones, and switch to the easy stuff every time you feel uneasy, frustrated on the hard problems… => interleave

Q

Learning: After a while of learning a tough subject, you sometimes feel like you don’t understand anything anymore. Why is this?

A

The brain ‘re-indexes’ the information. it is a natural reaction. If you bite through, you’ll have a more solid understanding.
