What is septic arthritis?

A

joint inflammation caused by a bacterial infection (staph areus).
Symptoms include: jt. pain, impaired ROM, and fever.
Treatment: Anti biotics, pain meds, joint asperation w/ needle, athrotomy to drain jt.

Symptoms include: fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.

A

Blood supply to the femoral head is interrupted and it begins to die.
Symptoms: Limping,
Pain or stiffness in the hip, groin, thigh or knee
Limited range of motion of the hip joint
Pain that worsens with activity and improves with rest.
Treatment: PT to preserve jt. mob, conservative treatment, pain management

Paget’s Disease

A

Excessive bone remodeling
Symptoms: Pelvis. Paget’s disease of bone in the pelvis can cause hip pain.
Skull. An overgrowth of bone in the skull can cause hearing loss or headaches.
Spine. If your spine is affected, nerve roots can become compressed. This can cause pain, tingling and numbness in an arm or leg.
Leg. As the bones weaken, they may bend — causing you to become bowlegged. Enlarged and misshapen bones in your legs can put extra stress on nearby joints, which may cause osteoarthritis in your knee or hip.
