week 8 Flashcards
INTERCOSTALS
ACTION: External Intercostals: • draw ribs superiorly • inhalation Internal Intercostals: • draw ribs inferiorly • exhalation
ORIGIN: • inferior border of the rib above INSERTION • superior border of rib below N: • thoracic
SERRATUS POSTERIOR SUPERIOR
A: • Elevate ribs during inhalation
O: • Spinous processes of C7 – T3
I: • Ribs 2 – 5
SERRATUS POSTERIOR ANTERIOR
A: • Depress ribs during exhalation
O: • Spinous process of T12 – L3
I: • Ribs 9 – 12
INTERTRANSVERSARII
A: Unilat:
• Laterally FLEX vert col.
Bilat

O / I : Cervical:
• Transverse processes of C2 – C7
Lumbar:
Transverse processes of L1 – L5
INTERSPINALIS
A: • EXT vert col. O / I: Cervical: • Spinous process C2 – T3 Lumbar: • Spinous process T12 – L5
LIGAMENTUM NUCHAE
- finline sheet of connective tissue that runs along the saggital plane from EOP to spinous process of C7 in neck
- chief function → stabilized head & neck
- attachment siget for superficial muscles of posterior neck (trapezius, splenius capitis)
THORACOLUMBAR APONEUROSIS
- Thick, diamond-shaped tendon
- Superficially across thorax, iliac crest, and runs upard to the lower thoracic vertebrae
- Anchor for several muscles in thorax & hips (latissimus dorsi, erector spinae group)
ANTERIOR LONGITUDINAL LIGAMENT (ALL)
- Covers 1/3 of anterior vertebral
- Very strong, tough → protects too much extension of spine
- Prevents anterior herniating of discs
- C3 – L5 one continuous ligament
POSTERIOR LONGITUDINAL LIGAMENT (PLL)
- Thinner, not as strong as ALL
* C3 – L5
LIGAMENTUM FLAVUM
(yellow)
• Attaches lamina ←→ lamina
INTERSPINOUS LIGAMENT
• Attaches spinous process ←→ spinous process
SUPRASPINOUS LIGAMENT
- On top of spinous, most superficial ligament
* One long continuous
name the spine ligaments from DEEP→ SUPERFICIAL
PLL → Ligamentum Flavum → Interspinous Lig. → Supraspinous Lig
