Week 7 Regression Flashcards
When would use regression analysis?
To see if we can predict one variable based upon the score in the other
In regression analysis what variable goes on the x axis?
Independent variable (the predictor)
In regression analysis what variable hoes on the y axis?
Dependent variable (predicted)
What is the bi-variate regression equation?
The formula for the line of best fit
What does R squared tell us?
How much of the variance in one variable is explained by variance in the other
What are the assumption for bivariate regression?
- Normal distribution
- Homogeneity of variance
- Interval/ratio
- Independence
- Linear relationship
- Residuals are normally distributed
What does independence mean?
The assumption that one data point does not effect the others. In people, one persons does not influence the behaviour of another
What does residual mean?
The distance between the plotted points and the line of best fit
How do you know if you have normally distributed residuals?
Plot the distance from the line of best fit on a histogram and the curve should be a bell shape
Where do you look to find out if skinfold is a significant predictor of the dexa result
Under- sig
Across- sum 5 skinfold
What does the t statistic tell us?
Test whether a regression coefficient b is significantly different from zero
What does the t statistic tell us?
Test whether a regression coefficient b is significantly different from zero
What does the regression equation do?
Predict the dependent variable from the independent variable
