What is the Pathogenesis of Bronchiolitis?
- Typically caused by RSV
- Aerosol or Direct transmission
What is the clinical representation of Bronchiolitis?
- Fever
- Respiratory Distress
- Cough +/- Secretions
- Auscultation Signs
- CXR may show consolidation
What management procedures are used for Bronchiolitis?
- Humidification +/- Oxygen
- Ventilation Support if required
- Antibiotics

- Secretion Clearance

- Infection of lung parenchyma w/pathogen
- Caused by various bacteria
What is the clinical representation of Pneumonia?
- Fever // Flu-like Symptoms
- Pleural Pain
- Cough (dry / productive)
- RR + HR increase
- WCC increase
- Auscultations = BBS, crackles, reduced BS
- CXR = signs of consolidation
- ABG’s = Hypoxaemia
What management procedures are used for Pneumonia?
- Admission to Hosp.
- Antibiotics if bacterial
- Fluid Manag.
- Oxygen therapy
- Analgesics

- Secretion Clearance
- Breathing Techniques
What is the Pathogenesis for Lung Abscess?
- Anaerobic Bacteria invading lung
What is the clinical representation of Lung Abscess’?
- Fever // Flu-like Symptoms
- Cough w/ purulent secretions
- Haemoptysis
- Weight Loss
- CXR / CT findings = Cavity + Air-fluid level
What management procedures are used for Lung Abscess’?
- Antibiotics
- Biopsy
- Surgical Intervention
What can Physiotherapists do for Lung Abscess’?
- Postural Drainage (if abscess is draining)
