Week 7 - Intro to Gonio Flashcards
Gonia = \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Metron = \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
- angle
- measures
When is active ROM not done?
Post surgery
What is the difference between kinematics, arthrokinematics, and osteokinematics?
- Kinematics- study of motion without regard to the forces that create the motion
- Arthrokinematics- movement of joint surfaces
- Osteokinematics- movements of the shaft of the bones
What are the motions we look at with bony segments?
- Translatory (slide)
- Rotary (spin)
- Combination
Osteokinematic motion occurs in ______
planes
Arthrokinematics occurs in 3 motions, what are they?
- Slide
- Spin
- Roll
What does the Convex/Concave rule define?
- Convex on concave will slide OPPOSITE the roll/bone motion
- Concave on convex will slide SAME as roll/bone motion
- What motions occur in the sagittal plane?
- What motions occur in the frontal plane?
- What motions occur in the transverse plane?
- flexion/extension
- ab/adduction
- medial/lateral rotation
What are the 3 degrees of freedom relates to?
How many planes a joint can move in
Difference between AROM and PROM?
Active is the motion the patient can perform on their own. Passive is the movement the PT can move them through.
Is PROM or AROM usually greater?
PROM
The starting point for all ROM except rotation is in the _________ position. What position is rotation done in?
- anatomical
- halfway between internal and external rotation
What are the three end feels for ROM?
- Soft (soft tissue approximation)
- Firm (muscular/capsular/ligamentous stretch)
- Hard (bone to bone)
What are abnormal end feels?
When they occur later or earlier than expected
An empty end feel is _____ limited and has ___________.
- pain limited
- no restriction
