Week 6 - upper limb vasculature Flashcards
What occurs at the aortic arch?
the right side has the brachicephalic artery to link it to the heart, whereas the left side goes directly from the aorta to the subclavian artery
How many parts does the subclavian artery have?
3
What are the three parts of the subclavian artery?
- brachiocephalic trunk to med border of ant scalene
- behind anterior scalene
- lateral border of anterior scalene to lateral border of first rib
How many parts does the axillary artery have?
3
What are the three parts of the axillary artery?
- lateral border of first rib to med border of pec minor
- behind pec minor
- lat border of pec minor to inf border of teres major
When does the axillary artery become the brachial artery?
after teres minor
What is the function of the common interosseous artery?
to pump blood while the major artery is temporarily squeezed during normal movement (ie flexion of elbow)
Where does the common interosseous artery come from?
off ulnar artery
Where do the ant and post interosseous arteries anastamose?
in the deep palmar arches
What does the ulnar nerve supply?
superficial palmar arch
What does the radial nerve supply?
deep palmar arch
