Week 6: Module 3 Pt. 1 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 layers of the GIT?
A
- Mucosa
- Submucosa
- Smooth muscle
- Serosa
2
Q
What is the mucosa layer of the GIT comprised of?
A
- Epithelium tissues: mostly simple columnar epithelium and goblet cells for secretion.
- Lamina propria: loose areolar connective tissue with capillaries for nourishment and absorption.
- Muscularis mucosae: smooth muscle that produces local movement of mucosa.
3
Q
What is the submucosa layer of the GIT?
A
Dense connective tissue with glands, blood/lymphs (MALT); also has submucosal plexus (neural network) - controls secretion.
4
Q
What is the function of the smooth muscle layer of the GIT?
A
Responsible for segmentation and peristalsis; also has myenteric plexus (neural network) - controls motility
5
Q
Function of the serosa layer?
A
Also known as the visceral peritoneum, it connects to the peritoneal cavity.
6
Q
What are the 3 types of teeth?
A
Incisors: chisel shaped for cutting.
Canines: for tearing
Pre-molars and molars: crushing and grinding
