Why is it difficult to detect if GH supplements have been taken?

A
  • Can not distinguish between exogenous (from external source) or endogenous (made in the body)
  • GH has a pulsatile increase (therefore, peaks unexpectedly)
  • Due to genetics, GH levels can he higher
  • Has a short half life of only 20 minutes

  • Acts at arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus to increase appetite
