Prince Henry the Navigator
Sailed for Spain and conquered the Aztecs in central Mexico; landed in the coast in 1519 and by 1521 had defeated the Aztec King Moctezuma and destroyed the city of Tenochtitlan; later the site of Mexico City
Hernando Cortez
Sailed for Spain and conquered the Incas in South America; killed Atahupla after receiving ransom
Francisco Pizarro
Portuguese navigator and explorer who sailed for Spain; led the first crew to circumnavigate the world; died along the way
Ferdinand Magellan
English sailor; 2nd person to circumnavigate the globe; along the way gained hatred of Spanish by raiding their settlements and gaining riches for The Queen of England; later helped defeat Spanish Armada
