What does strategic management involve?
-Not just a plan—goes beyond controlling resources.
-Focuses on creating value (not just profit).
-Involves a theory (why) as well as execution (how).
-Requires alignment across layers
-IT investments should support strategic objectives.
What does change management involve?
-Change = Transition from current to future state
Lewin’s 3 Stages: Unfreeze → Change → Refreeze
-Resistance is common (psych, political, etc.)
Clear communication is essential
-Readiness matters—people & systems must be prepared
Timing is crucial
-Champions, not managers, inspire others
Influential peers = critical actor
What does project management involve?
-3 Dimensions of a Project:
Has an end point
Involves novelty
Produces a deliverable (tangible/intangible)
-Iron Triangle:
Project constrained by Quality, Time, and Cost
Needs define what/how/when to deliver
-Types of Projects:
Internal: for managers (e.g. closing a branch)
External: for customers (e.g. adding to SAP)
