week 5 not in test Flashcards
1
Q
what are the two types of evolutionary change
A
anagenesis - micro evolution
cladogenesis - macroevolution
2
Q
how does founder event speciation occur
A
- ancestral species
- small population founded by a few individuals
- small population becomes genetically isolated from parent species
OR - original population
- bottlenecking effect
- surviving population
3
Q
how do you know if speciation has occurred
A
if genetic isolation occurs then populations again become sympatric - if they can interbreed speciation has not occured
4
Q
define allopatric and sympatric speciation
A
divergence happens in geographically isolated areas - allopatric
if divergence occurs in the same area - sympatric speciation
5
Q
name 2 types of isolation
A
geographic or temporal eg valley or types of woodland
6
Q
what are the two types of evolutionary change
A
anagenesis - micro evolution
cladogenesis - macroevolution
