Primitive/Primary and Tonic reflexes
This type of reflex is developed to manipulate skills

S: tactile at mouth
R: turn head to stimulated side and tongue searching

S: tactile in mouth
R: suck rhythmically

S: sudden drop in the head/body
R: initially abduct shoulders and extend the elbows, fingers, and back then move back to midline

S: in prone, tactile to lateral aspect of midline
R: infant curve trunk away making a “C” shape
T: appears at 32 GA, 2-3 months

R: flex knee and hip and dorsiflex the ankle

crossed extension reflex
S: tactile stimulation on the sole of the foot
R: opposite leg will initially flex and then extend and adduct

S: when the baby is vertical and feet make contact with the ground
R: extensor tone increases in legs and trunk

Stepping reflex
S: baby is held weight bearing; slightly forward
R: step in heel to toe gait pattern

Placing reflex
S: bottom of foot
R: infant move their foot in search of a surface
