Problem-solving
the ability to combine previously learned principles, procedures, declarative knowledge, and cognitive strategies in a unique way within a domain of content to solve previously unencountered problems.
Heuristic problem solving
problem solving for which no clear procedural rule exists.
Problem
is present when one has a goal but does not know immediately how this goal can be reached
Simulation
is an activity that attempts to mimic the most essential features of a reality but allows learners to make decisions within this reality without actually suffering the consequences of their decisions.
Cognitive Domain Strategies
Are used to support information processing; i.e selecting information to attend to, promoting the encoding and storage of information, and enhancing retrieval.
Affective Domain Strategies (aka support strategies)
Are self-motivational skills that influence an individual’s active engagement in a learning task and maintain a psychological attitude conducive to learning.
Guided participation
Depends heavily upon a teacher who guides students through the use of a strategic procedure in a day-to-day school task.
