Week 5 Flashcards
Precapillary sphincters relax during exercise due to what 2 things
Increased BP
Increased metabolites
BP = WHAT X WHAT
cardiac output x total peripheral resistance
Define systolic bp
Highest pressure in the artery occurring during ventricular diastole.
Define diastolic bp
Lowest pressure in the artery occurring during ventricular diastole
Define Mean arterial pressure
Average pressure exerted by the blood circulated through the arteries
When does systolic bp occurs
The phase of the heartbeat where blood is pumped from the chambers of the heart into the arteries
When diastolic bp occurs
The phase of muscular relaxation allowing the chambers to fill with blood
Normal BP levels
- SDP = <120
- DBP = <80
Elevated BP levels
- SBP = <120 - 129
- DBP = <80
Hyper tension 1 levels
- SDP = 130 - 139
- DBP = 80 -89
Define rate-pressure product
- An estimate of myocardial workload and resulting oxygen
Rate-pressure formula
- RPP = SBP X HR
Effects of resistance training on BP
Increases total peripheral resistance and reduces muscle perfusion
Effects of Continuous exercise on BP
- SDP gradually declines
- DBP remains unchanged throughout
Increased BF rapidly increases SBP during the first few minutes of exercise
