Week 12 Flashcards
what are the 6 divisions of the brain
- Medulla oblongata
- Pons
- Midbrain
- Cerebellum
- Diencephalon
- Telencephalon
What is the brain composed of
- Is composed from the medulla, pons, and midbrain
What does the medulla extend into to
The pons
What does the cerebellum consist of
two peach- size mounds of folded tissue with lateral hemispheres and a central vermis
What does the cerebellum function as
the major comparing, evaluating and integrating center for postural adjustments
Where is the diencephalon located
- Is located immediately above the midbrain and forms part of the cerebral hemispheres
What structures do the diencephalon include
the thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus, and subthalamus
What does the telencephalon (cerebellum) contain
the two hemispheres of the cerebral cortex, including the corpus striatum and medulla
how many pair of nerves for each spinal, cranial, cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal
spinal - 31 cranial - 12 cervical - 8 thoracic - 12 lumbar - 5 sacral 5 coccygeal - 1
What does a reflex arc consist of
Receptor Sensory neuron Interneuron Motor neuron Effector
Anterior motor neuron consists of what 3 things
- Cell body
- Axon
- Dendrite
Anterior motor neuron function
anterior motor neurons innervate extrafusal muscle fibers and are the primary means of skeletal muscle contraction.
Define neuromuscular junction
- Represents the interface between the end of a myelinated motor neuron and muscle fiber and transmits the nerve impulse to initiate muscle action
What are motor unit classified by
- Twitch characteristics
- Tension characteristics (force)
- Fatigability
Define size principle
Orderly recruitment of specific motor units to produce a smooth muscle action
