Week 5 Flashcards
What are confounding variables?
The variable/s in your experiment whose value you do not control and whose effect on the DV/s you wish to minimise.
How do we establish causation?
Covariance; Temporal precedence; internal validity
What is covariance?
Co-vary; as A changes, B changes.
What is a temporal precedence?
Effect follows cause; A=B.
What is internal validity?
There are no possible alternative explanations for the changes in B, A is the only thing that changed.
What is the difference between within and between subjects?
Within - all participants complete all trials; Between - difference participants complete different trials in a study.
Which design uses counter-balancing?
Within subjects; dependent; repeated.
