Inflammation of the gingival tissue
Gingivitis
Calcium and phosphate salts in saliva that become mineralized and adhere to the tooth surfaces.
Calculus
Type of drug that constricts blood vessels. Used to prolong anesthetic action.
Vasoconstrictor
Soft deposits on teeth that consists of bacteria and bacterial by-products.
Plaque
Inflammatory disease of the supporting tissue of the teeth.
Periodontitis
Holds newly mixed amalgam. Is placed and retrieved. Accessory instrument.
Amalgam well
Also termed “mottled enamel” it results from ingestion of excessive fluoride during the mineralization period of tooth development.
Fluorosis
The complete removal of calculus, debris, stain, and plaque from teeth. Commonly known as prophy or a cleaning.
Prophylaxis
Stains that are on the external surfaces of teeth and may be removed by scaling and or polishing
Extrinsic
Stains that are within the enamel and cannot be removed by polishing.
Intrinsic
Band that fences side of tooth being restored. Accessory instrument.
