Periapical X-ray. Provide a view of the apex of the tooth.
PA
Abbreviation for full mouth X-rays. Normally 18 X-rays consisting of 4 bite wings, and 14 periapicals. May have 20 X-rays
Fmx
Abbreviation for bitewing. Provides a view interproximally (between the teeth)
BWX
A bony elevation or protuberance of normal bone. Usually seen on the upper palate behind the front teeth or under the tongue inside the lower jaw.
Torus
Gives a complete view of both jaws on film. Used as a reference in the extraction of wisdom teeth. Also value able in the diagnosis of abnormal growths. They provide a view of the entire dentition and surrounding structures.
Panoramic
Visible image on X-ray after exposure before development/ processing.
Latent image
Medium grey to black on X-ray film.
Radiolucent
White to grey on X-ray film
