Aspiration
Burst of Air, Voiceless Stop Consonants
Flapping
Tongue touches the tooth ridge and is quickly pulled back, /D/ occurs within vowels when the preceding vowel is stressed
Glottalization
something in your throat that stops the sound ex: button, uh-oh
light /L/
The tip of the tongue should be touching the tooth ridge, occurs before a vowel ex: leaf, leak
Dark /L/
The tip of the tongue need not touch the tooth ridge, but the tip of the tongue is rised so it is near the soft palate, occurs after a vowel ex: feel, milk, pull
R-Colouring
Tongue curls slightly and is pulled back into the mouth ex: mirror, fared
Reduced Vowel
Occurs in unstressed syllables; muscles are relaxed, the tongue is in mid-position and the jaw is slightly opened
Unstressed vowels
SOFa, GLASSeS, a’BOUT, WATer, MUSiC, CITy, SHADow, MENu
