FEV1
FEV1/ FVC
PEFR
Describe how to perform the test
Sit upright, loose clothing
After a relaxed breath, take a max breath in
Seal lips around mouthpiece
Blow out as fast and completely as possible
3 acceptable spirographs are used
What does an acceptable spirogram demonstrate?
Quick and forceful expiration
No coughing
Smooth lines on graphs
Min exhalation time of 6 secs with no change in volume in last second
How are spirometry results classified?
Normal
Restrictive - a restriction in lung volume
Obstructive - an obstruction to flow
