Week 4 - IASTM and Self Mob Flashcards
What is the purpose of using a tool for soft tissue mobilization?
maximize force delivered to tissue and less work on therapist hands
IASTM purpose
- restart healing process through inflammation
- increase blood and nutrient supply
- realign fibers
IASTM goals
remove scar tissue and stimulate tendons and muscles to return to normal function
Summarize what the research says regarding IASTM from the ppt provided.
IASTM has not been shown to have any effect on inflammation related factors, despite it being shown to be effective at reducing exercise-induced inflammation
IASTM technique
20-120 seconds at 30-60 degree angle
- drink lots of fluids after to assist blood supply
IASTM side effects
- bruising
- petechiae - red bumps
- soreness
relative contraindications to IASTM
