Week 4 - Flexibility Flashcards
Flexibility
the capacity of a joint to move and be compliant
Mobility
Flexibility in a functional manner
Range of motion
A joint that moves through an arch of motion
Stiffness in a mechanical sense
The force needed to deform an object
Stiffness in a pathological sense
maladaptive changes after surgery/illness (lose of mobility, fibrous tissue, the difference in stretch tolerances)
What type of neural system does flexibility illicit?
Parasympathetic
What is it called when the blood flow is altered during stretching?
Haemodynamic
What are the 3 main types of stretching?
Static, isometric and dynamic
To enhance flexibility, how many times a week should you train?
5
To enhance flexibility, what type and time should you do?
Static and for 5 mins per muscle group
