Week 3 Flashcards
What is overreaching?
short term decrement in performance that occurs as a result of accumulation of fatigue from the program
What does SAID stand for?
o Specific
o Adaptations
o (to) Imposed
o Demands
What is meant by progressive overload?
variation of specific training variables (one element at a time)
What occurs as a result of lack of stimulus?
Plateu and lack of improvement
What comes first in general adaptation syndrome? Stress or alarm?
Stress
What does FITTVP stand for?
- Frequency
- Intensity
- Type
- Time
- Volume
- Progression
What is the difference between load and volume?
Load: how heavy the stressor is on the body
Volume: how much of that stressor is achieved, eg. how many kms per session>
What is periodisation?
logical, systematic variation of training (or rehab) in order to direct the desired training responses while managing fatigue to optimize performance
What is the benefit of periodisation?
- Avoids monotony (boring, repeated)
- Not overtraining
- Promotes adaption
What time frame is described is Mesocycles?
approx 1 month
What is the compensation phase?
active rest periods
What is mechanotransduction?
Cellular response to mechanical stress on the body
What are some ways to subjectively measure load?
sessional RPE (RPE x time = RPE units)
training diaries
wellness questionaries
What are some ways to objectively measure load?
external load (sets x reps x laod = volume load) heart rate (intrasession and post)
