the normal distribution
it is bell shaped, symmetric and has two parameters: the mean and the standard distribution
z-scores
measures the number of standard deviations something is away from the mean
z = x - mean / SD
68%, 95%, 99.7% rule
in a normal distribution:
68% of observations are in 1 SD
95% are within 2 SD
99.7% are within 3 SD
standard normal probability table
this table tells us the probabilities associated with different z scores
Bernoulli random variable
when an individual trial only has 2 possible outcomes
geometric distribution
a type of discrete probability distribution that represents the probability of the number of successive failures before a success is obtained in a Bernoulli trial.
Binomial Distribution
binomial probability = no of scenarios x p(single scenario)
