Week 4 Concrete Stairs Flashcards
Suspended Concrete Slab:
When is the beam poured in relation to the slab?
They are poured at the same time
Suspended Concrete Slab:
Are steel beams allowed to support CIP concrete slabs?
No, beams are to concrete.
Suspended Concrete Slab:
What is the most common slab thickness?
200mm
Suspended Concrete Slab:
How thick can a slab be if a flat slab is used?
400mm
Concrete Beams:
Where is the total depth measured from?
from the top of slab
What is a concrete Slab Band?
-a wide, shallow beam, 1200mm or wider
When is a concrete slab band commonly used?
-in parking garages and other areas requiring more clearance
What is the difference between a one way slab and a two way slab?
A one way slab is when the slab is longer in one direction, so it is reinforced in that one direction with supporting beams
A two way slab is when the slab is reinforced in two directions equally with or without beams.
Why is a 2 way concrete slab better than a 1 way?
- no beams required
- columns don’t need to line up with beams
- reduces formwork
Exit Stair Design:
What is the minimum stair width?
900 or 1100mm
Exit Stair Design:
What is the minimum landing size?
No less than stair width or 1100mm, whichever is less
Exit Stair Design:
Where are handrails required?
They’re required on both sides of stairs if stairs is 1100mm wide or more
Exit Stair Design:
How much does one rail need to extend horizontally beyond the top and bottom riser?
300mm top and 300mm bottom/ add one tread length
What height are guards and handrails?
Guards to be 1070mm, handrail to be 865-1070mm, 915mm typical
