What does assembler do?
Each assembly language instruction is translated into exactly one machine instruction.
5 metrics used to compare different processor architectures
- Architectural Model
- The Register File
- The Instruction Set
- The Data types supported.
- The executing unit
PCI
Peripheral Component Interconnect- a parallel bus used to connect the processor to peripheral devices
MIPS
Mega Instructions Per Second- processor performance measure indicating how many machine instructions the processor can execute.
MTBF
Mean Time Before Failures - the predicted average time from when a system is put into service to when it will fail.
DRAM
Dynamic Random Access Memory- a type of memory which must be continuosly refreshed.
PCM
Pulse Code Modulation- an uncompressed audio representation.
