Week 4 Flashcards
Describe blood composition percentages for plasma, erythrocytes and WBCs
- plasma = 55% and contains water, electrolytes, plasma proteins (albumin/ Avon Wilderband Factor)
- erythrocytes = 45%
WBCs = less than 1 %
What are funny channels?
Na+ voltage gated channels that open when the membrane is contrary to normal Na voltage gated channels, hence then being called funny
Where so platelets originate from? How are they specialised for their function?
1) originate from megakaryocytes, the production of this is increased by erythropoietin in bone marrow.. Megakaryocytes stimulate platelet production
2)
have no nuclei
have actin/myosin, enabling platelets to contract
Name the stages of haemostasis? What is different between when you have a minor injury to when you have major vascular damage?
So this is the sequence of events with minor damage to vessels i.e.
- vascular contraction
- exposure of collagen
- adherence of platelts to vessel
- release of activating factors from platelets.
- Aggregation of platelets to form a platelet plug.
- repair of vessel wall.
If the damage is major them blood coaulation and fibrin formation is neccessary to stop bleeding.
Describe the stages in detail!
