What is anger
An intense emotion, displayed through cursing, yelling, sarcasm, or physical gestures (e.g., breaking objects).
What is aggression
Intentional actions to harm (physical, psychological, or both)

- It can last days, weeks, or years

physical abuse
- Nurses may encounter these clients in all aspects of acute and long-term care and should be cognizant of presenting manifestations.
- Perpetrators use force (e.g., kicking, hitting, slapping, pushing, strangling, biting) to control others.
signs of physical abuse
- General Appearance: Ripped clothing, broken eyewear, disheveled hair/clothing.
- Body: Bruises, lacerations, burns, fractures, puncture wounds, or wounds in various stages of healing.
sexual abuse
Any forced, inappropriate, or unwanted sexual contact, including:
- Explicit photos, indecent exposure, unwanted touching, rape, coerced acts, or nudity.

- Sudden behavioral changes (fear of people/places, sexually explicit behavior/play).
- Regression (e.g., bedwetting).
- Developmentally inappropriate interest in sexuality.
- Bruising or bleeding around breasts, anus, or genitals; damaged or blood-stained underclothing.
- Unexplained/recurrent sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
neglect and abandonment
Involves leaving at-risk individuals without basic necessities (clothing, food, water, and healthcare).

Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caregiver that results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse, or exploitation, or an act or failure to act that presents an imminent risk of serious harm
