Week 31 - Power Continued Flashcards
What is a circuit breaker and how does it work?
A circuit breaker is a switch that is designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload
If more amperage than is intended passes through the breaker, the breaker will trip and cause the circuit to open
What is an Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI)
If not behaving like a sine wave (arcing), breaker trips
What is 3 phase power?
This is the most commonly used form of electricity to factories and industrial sites
It is also the most commonly used power in the entertainment industry
Where are stove plugs most commonly used?
Stove plugs are generally used in entertainment venues that have single phase power
What are the two most common kinds of power cables used in the entertainment industry?
2 feeder up to 100 amps
Camlok
J series (1016) More commonly known as feeder It is common practice in the entertainment industry to reverse the ground and neutral from the other three conductors
AWG
2/0 Feeder up to 200 amps
4/0 Feeder up to 400 amps
What do we need to consider when connecting camloks?
Always make sure the power is shut off before connecting the cable
Plug the cables in using the following order:
Green - Ground White - Neutral Black - X Red - Y Blue - Z
What order do we unplug camloks in?
Blue - Z Red - Y Black - X White - Neutral Green - Ground
What is a tail?
`Tails is the term used for a cable that has the appropriate connector on one end, and bare copper wires on the other end
What do we need to consider when tying into the disconnect?
This connection can only be made by a qualified electrician
What is the AC distro?
Accepts the main feed
Consists of breakers and receptacles that are specific to our needs
AC distros come in many shapes and sizes
The needs of the show must be determined ahead of time
How do you determine how much power you need for a concert?
We have to look at each piece of equipment in our rig and determine how much electricity will be used
