Week 30 - Power Flashcards
What are voltage rating categories, their voltages, their risk factors, and their common applications?
Extra low voltage:
Under 50v
Low risk
Audio signal (line voltage)
Low voltage:
50V to 1000V
Electrical shock
Household voltage, industrial voltage, venue mains
High Voltage:
Over 1000v
Electrical Arcing
Power plant generation, long distance transmission
What is an electrical ground?
Provides a path for the electricity to flow if there is a fault in the equipment, causing a surge
A connection made to a pipe or plate that is buried in the ground
Water pipes make an excellent ground connections
Where are some places we would measure resistance?
Speakers
Components (Resistors, Faders)
Cables
Adaptors
What do voltage readings on a battery tell us?
AA and AAA:
- 5 Volts is “new”
- 2 Volts is “used but good”
- 1 Volts or less is “Dead”
9V:
9 Volts is “new”
8 Volts is “Used but good”
7 Volts or less is “Dead”
What are tamper resistant duplexes and why are they in use?
Electrical code (since 2008) Now requires that all duplexes be “Tamper resistant”
The hot and neutral connections have a gate over them that will only open if equal force is applied to both sides at the same time
