Week 3 - Soft Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
What are deep transverse frictions?
A
Transverse compressive forces are applied to the superior surface of the tissue
2
Q
How would you perform DTF massage?
A
Force perpendicular to fibre orientation
Numbing after 5-8 minutes and then deeper friction or 10 reps
3
Q
How is it theorised to work?
A
Breaks down adhesions
Increases blood supply
Activates cells in area
Helps re-orientate fibres
4
Q
Describe the contra-indications and precautions to DTFM and SSTM
A
Open wounds Clotting disorders DVT Skin infections Acute inflammation Growth plates Skin disorders Possible Ca Foreign body/ implant Fragile skin condition RhA Spondylarthropathies Bursitis Neural Tissue

Q
What are the 4 grades of mobilisations for joints and soft tissue?
A
1 - Small amplitude, early into range
2 - Large amplitude, no into resistance
3 - Larger amplitude, into resistance
4 - Into resistance, small amplitude
