Week 3 notes Flashcards
Mental nerve block affects what?
bone, teeth and soft tissue rostral to the site of injection
how do you block the mental nerve?
place the needle at the middle mental foramen
where do you palpate the middle mental foramen on the dog?
buccal aspect of the mandible just below the mesial root of the second premolar
Inferior alveolar block affects what?
all teeth in the mandible on the side of injection and also soft tissue like the tongue
how do you block the inferior alveolar nerve in a dog and cat?
Dog- needle directed into the tissues behind the last molar at the foramen which is about 2/3 of the way halfway between the last molar and the angular process on the lingual aspect
Cat- made at foramen, at a point about halfway to the angular process from the last molar
Infaorbital nerve block affects?
the bone, soft tissue, upper incisors, canine, and premolars on the side of injection.
How do you block the infraorbital nerve?
infraorbital foramen can be palpated int he maxilla dorsal to the distal root of the upper third premolar.
Maxillary nerve block affects?
maxillary bone, teeth, soft tissue, and palate on the side of the injection
how do you block the infraorbital nerve?
above the last upper molar just behind the notch at the rostral ventral aspect of the zygomatic arch
