CDM
Charge Description Master - a database that houses lists of tests, procedures, etc. with ICD/CPT codes and revenue codes that transmit to the claims and billing processes.
CPT/ICD
Current Procedural Terminology coding systems for procedures, ICD - International Classification of Disease coding structure for diagnosis. Currently using the 9th revision, moving to ICD 10 in 2015.
GOARN
Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network - operated by the WHO, it surveils identification and confirmation to disease outbreaks of international public health importance.
GIS
Global Information Systems - use digitized maps from satellites or aerial photography and maps and analyzes data which can be visually displayed in layers b location, etc.
GPHIN
Global Public Health Intelligence Network - developed by Canada to electronically monitor infections disease outbreaks. Links to WHO. Gathers reports in 7 languages.
MDS
Minimum Data Set - data gathered about residents in Long Term Care facilities such as psych-social, activity levels, medications, diagnosis, etc, that maps to payment (RUGS) for LTC
PACS
Picture Archiving Communication System - replaced old radiology image system with digitized version which is safer and provides clearer images that can be transmitted electronically using the DICOM standard
Raster Data
used in GIS, raster data utilizes aerial photography and satellite imagery as a layer.
Vector Data
used in GIS, appears as points, lines, or polycons on a table (areas that have a perimeter like parcels of land)
