Week 3 Flashcards
Term - Cytoplasm
cellular materials inside the cell.
Term - Nucleus
control centre of cell.
Term - Plasma membrane
Double layer of lipids with proteins molecules in it.
Term - Microvilli
Increase surface area of plasma membrane.
Term - Endoplasmic reticulum
membranous network, smooth or rough (ribosomes).
Term - Ribosomes
protein synthesis
Term - Golgi complex
modifies proteins for lipids for export.
Term - Secretory vesicle
transports products such as proteins
Term - Lysosome
contains acidic digestives enzymes.
Term - Mitochondrion
synthesis adenosine triphosphate (ATP = heat, energy)
Term - Centriole
roll in cell division (mitosis).
Term - Desmosome
roll in joining the cells together.
Term - Cytoskeleton
proteins organised as microfilaments, microtubules or intermediate filaments.
What is hypotonic?
Water gained, volume increases, and the solute concentration decreases.
What is isotonic?
Volume and solute concentration stay constant.
What is hypertonic?
Water lost, volume decreases, solute concentration increases.
What is mitosis and where does it occur in the human body?
- Cell division – making new cells from the pre – existing cells.
- It occurs throughout most areas of the body.
