A

A culture/community was living there but then destroyed. Close promixity to culture similarities.

What was the aftermath of the I Hotel?

A

homelessness crisis increased due to eviciton ( struggle of low income housing) and no relocation. Eldery immigrant tenants lost a home in which they spent the most time in America. The increasing rent caused places close by to shut down as well.

Why were the Filipino men Single?

A

Immigration law prohibited the influx of women to keep the men single. They also faced discrimination when seen with a white woman since it was not socially accepted. An example is “ Taking jobs and taking women.”

How did the 13th Amendment help re-instantiate forms of Enslavement post - emancipation?

A

“except as a punishment for crime”. annual labor contracts( forced to sign to not go to jail), debt peonage( people could work off debts by working free labor from the states , convict leasing, radicalized terror an lynching. Subject to hard labor under the 13.

What are the central tenants of Ella Baker’s philopshy of community organizing?

A

Movements over leaders: hero worship: when the leader dies then the movement crumbles. Movements over organizations, legislative victory as am opening rather than end.
