Week 3 Flashcards
higher currents
with enough resistance a carrier will burn, due to high current
educated guesses for higher currents
take a known comparison, for example a water cattle (2000W for 1 kg)
if its tii hot we cool it but there are limits
relays
an electrically operated switch.
it uses an electromagnet to pull one contact to the other
you need extra circruity because arduino cannot give enough energy
what to use if you want to use more power than 20 mA
driver board, FET, BJT, Relays
relay
switch, needs more than 5v so needs a transistor with the relay and diodes to prevent high circuit peaks to return
Adafruit neopixel
typw of pixel that provides rgb outpot and is controlled by a data pin.
brushed DC motors
connected with 2 wires
Brushed DC motors
Dc motor that relies on brushes to control the coils. These are alternating so the motor turns. It uses 2 wires
Can be connected to the arduino to a pmw, needs a transistotr to deliver enough energy
Brushless DC motor
Dc motor without brushes, relies on commutator to control the rotating.
higher pulse width means controllingn the speed
stepper
a brushless dc motor that moves in small angular steps. With a driver its control is abstract making use of enable, direction and steps
consumes power even when not moving
servo
A motor with a closed feedback loop. either positional or continuous. Positional motors have potentiometer to measure its placement.
The resistance an the input is used to determine the drive
continuous servo’s
Continuous servos (hobby term) can have their speed and direction controlled
* They use the same internals as the “hobby” positional servo with a fixed R instead of the
potentiometer.
* The further the requested angle is from the set angle, the faster the motor will spin.
* They are a cheap and easy way to make small (slow) moving robots for instance
