when does the funeral mass begin at the Catholic Church and what is the procession order?
the funeral mass beings when the casket is ready for transition from the narthex into the nave of the church. the casket bearers and family members accompanying the casket into the narthex to await the celebrant and the acrolytes. then the procession meets the body, led by the crucifix, acolytes carrying holy water and incense and celebrant is last in procession. Celebrant blesses the casket with holy water than the pall is placed on the casket.
which way are the deceased facing when at the nave?
What happens after the casket is placed at the nave?
- deceased and nuns lay with their feet toward the altar
- deceased priests are placed with their head toward the altar.
-The funeral professionals pay respect by bowing or genuflecting toward the altar; symbol of respect and reverence, and will then proceed to exit via the side aisles.
Process of celebrant during mass and after
- celebrant will conduct several bible readings, consisting of psalms and the gospel.

- celebrant will partake in and offer communion
- following sacrament, funeral professionals return to casket and form the sign of the cross (feet go to the left, while head goes right making casket parallel to the chancel, then bringing feet back down to center and proceed to narthex)
- once at narthex, pall is removed and casket spray or flag is put back in place.
what does the committal service for Catholic Church consist of?
- priest leads casket to gravesite
- commital service consists of a psalm, scripture reading, invocations and prayer reflecting of the deceased with christ forever. more emphasis on tru joy that death brings to deceased and also stresses that for survivors this loss is only for a short period of time with the promise of a heavenly reunion later
