week 2 START Flashcards
What is a signal adder
featured in the feedback theory, this is used to add voltages together
what is the feedback theory?
process of returning part of the signal output from a circuit or device back to the input of that circuit or device
what is an amplifier
this makes the voltage signal bigger
what is an attenuator
this is the opposite of the amplifier, where it actually decreases voltage signal
what is an op-amp
or operational amplifier
a voltage amplifying device designed to be used with resistors and capacitors between its in and output terminals
what is an integrator
an inverting amplifier with a capacitor replacing the feedback resistor
what is a differentiator circuit
a circuit that is designed such that the output of the circuit is approximately directly proportional to the rate of change of the output
whats a drawback of the use of an active high/low pass filter
the amplitude of its output voltage is always decreased by the capacitor resistor network
what is a active low pass filter
used to filter high frequency signals
what is a non-inverting input oof an opp-amp
a circuit which produces an amplifed output signal
what is a active high pass filter
used to allow high frequency signals pass through, low frequencys are removed completely
what is a AC Coupled amplifer
conventional amplifier that uses capacitors or transformers to block DC voltage between stages
what is the frequency response of an op-amp
As frequency increases, gain decreases, with the prominent transition from stable gain to decreasing gain occurring at the corner frequency
what are the 7 ideal op-amp characteristics
unlimited frequency response 0 voltage offset 0 current offset 0 impedance output infine slew rate infinite imput impedance no limitations on the output voltage and current
what are the 7 op-amp selection criteria
signal levels accuracy bandwidth requriements enviromental condidtions power budget space budget finanical budegt
