What is Reflection?
The process of examining an experience that raises an issue of concern

An internal process we use to help refine our understanding of an experience
Why is reflection important?
To improve ourselves and locate our strengths and weaknesses
Is reflection passive or intentional?
It is INTENTIONAL
What does reflection have to do with physical therapy?
allows us to connect our personal experiences, preferences, and beliefs to the experiences of our patient.
Reflection encourages to consider the situation from the perspective of:

What worked in the past? What did not work?
Reflection for action:
hypothetical. “What might you do if”?
What is content reflection?
Analysis of the problem/situation from the perspectives of all those involved patients families caregivers nurses doctors third - party payers
What is process reflection?
determines how we might approach the situation or what strategies we might choose in addressing the problem
determine problem solving strategies, determine efficacy of strategies chosen, explore other available strategies.
What is the most difficult level of reflection?
Premise reflection
