What is associative discrimination?
You are associated with someone with a protected characteristic and discriminated against because of this
What is dual discrimination?
Where an individual believes that he or she has been treated less favourably because of a combination of two protected characteristics.
What is direct discrimination?
Treated differently or wrose than someone else because of certain reasons
What is indirect discrimination?
When there is a practice, policy or rule that applies to everyone in the same way but it has a worse effect on some people than others - puts them at a disadvantage
What is predjudice?
A learned attitude, view or feeling without knowledge, intent or reason which is likely to be sustained even in the face of evidence to the contrary
What characteristics are protected under the Equality Act 2010?
1.Age
2.Gender/sex
3.Pregnancy and maternity
4.Sexual orientation
5.Gender Reassignment
6. Race/ Ethnic origin
7. Religion and beliefs
8. Disability - physical or mental
9. marriage and civil partnership - (protects those who are married, note could still be discriminated against because are single)
What is the name of the main Act that deals with discrimination law?
Equality Act 2010
What is conflict?
Bheviour intended to obstruct the achievement of another persons goals
What are the three types of work conflict?
Task conflict - different opinions, views and ideas
Process conflict - different ideas over the logistics of achieving an outcome
Relationship conflict - interpersonal incompatibility such as different personal values, morals or characteristics
What are the early signs of work conflict?
Reduction in people volunteering or contributing for work tasks
Reduction in motivation or moral
Reluctance to contribute ideas openly
Development of a them and us culture
Greater avoidance between team members
What should you do when handling conflict?
Listen to other viewpoints and develop an understanding of their opinion
Collaboratively look for a solution
Use open ended discussion with key goals
Use comfortable environments in a set time frame and try to avoid escalation of emotion
What to avoid when handling a conflict?
Dont conduct discussion in an open place
Do not be humourous, interput or distract the other persons opinion
