WEEK 2 NOTES Flashcards
What is direct current?
Flow of charge in one direction.
Very consistent in voltage delivery, used by most electronics
What is alternating current?
Flow of charge which changes directions.
Mostly used to deliver power to houses etc
What direction does conventional current flow in?
Electrons flow from the negative terminal into the positive terminal
What is a resistor?
A component that restricts the flow of electrical charge
What is the difference between fixed-value resistors and variable resistors?
Fixed- value do not change their resistance whereas variable resistors do
How does a current and voltage act when resistors are connected in a series?
The current going through the resistors stay the same.
The voltage across each resistor is different
What does connected in a series mean?
Connected in a straight line going from left to right
What does connected in a parallel circuit mean?
Connected going downwards
What is the current in resistors in series circuits?
The current stays the same through each resistors
What is the voltage in resistors in series circuits?
The voltage changes through each resistor
What is the current in resistors in parallel circuits?
The current going through each resistor changes
What is the voltage in resistors in parallel circuits?
The voltage stays the same through each resistor
What is it known as when the voltage changes through each resistor?
A voltage drop
