CHAPTER 2.1-2.7 Flashcards
What are the four parts to a basic electrical system?
The source
The load
The transmission system
The control apparatus
What is the role of the load?
Absorbing the electrical energy e.g. lamp
What is the role of the transmission system?
Conducts energy from the source to the load e.g. wires
What is the role of the control apparatus?
To control e.g. a switch which permits or disrupts electrical flow
How should electrical circuit diagrams be drawn?
From left to right, the source being on the left and the load on the right.
Draw the symbol for a generator/source
PG 14 in electrical principles book
Draw the symbol for a lamp bulb/laod
PG 14 in electrical principles book
Draw the symbol for a switch/ control apparatus
PG 14 in electrical principles book
What conditions are needed in a circuit so a current continues to flow?
The circuit must be complete so electrons can return to the source.
There must be a driving influence so that the current leaves the source at a high potential and returns at a low potential.
What is the driving influence termed as?
The electromotive force/ e.m.f
What does the current measure?
The rate of flow of charge through a section of a circuit
What is the unit for electrical resistance?
Ohms
Symbol= R
What is the equation for electrical energy?
W = V x I x T
What is the equation for electrical power?
P = V x I
What is the equation for resistance?
R = V/I
