(2008) - Meaning of “abuse”

  1. Historical + cultural differences = difficult to find universal agreement on abuse
  2. Psychological abuse = worst but hardest to identify & agree on
  3. Problems when reducing abuse to behaviours: different beliefs and values of danger and = context-dependent
  4. Gelles (1975): Understanding of abuse = socially-constructed
