What is information literacy?

A

Information Literacy: The ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed
information.

Information Literacy is… Multifaceted; extends beyond merely finding information
a skill (ability) – implies it can be learned and developed active, thoughtful, and deliberate (evaluate) solution focused (use effectively) applied to a context, not mechanically (needed information)

Information literacy extends outside academia

Standard one
The Information Literate person recognises the need for information and determines the nature and extent of the information needed

The information literate person finds needed information effectively and efficiently

The information literate person evaluates information and the information seeking process

The information literate person applies prior and new information to construct new concepts or create new understandings
